UrsaDSP Boost adds energy and warmth to your audio with no clipping
This maximiser does a little more than you might think – at a reasonable price.
Four years after its success in the KVR Development Challenge 2016 with Lagrange delay, UrsaDSP has unveiled its first commercial plug-in. Boost is a professional maximiser for mixing and mastering that increases the loudness of an audio signal, with a few little tricks that might set it apart from other dynamic processors.

UrsaDSP says Boost can “reveal hidden details” of a track, thanks to its unique Focus control. When increased, Focus can hone in on quieter parts of the audio and process them more intensely, with up to 52dB dynamic gain increase. When mixing, it can be used to bring out reverb tails and artefacts that were previously too quiet in the mix. The brand calls this ‘Upward Maximising’, as it accentuates quiet signals instead of peak-limited loud signals.
Combining upward maximisation and Boost’s unique Trajectory Technology ensures the plug-in is consistently achieving the maximum possible gain increase, whilst keeping the signal transparent. You can even crush the dynamic range further than most other limiters, with minimal distortion.
You can add extra harmonic distortion and warmth using the drive parameter, and hit the Punch button to add more impact to transients. Attack and release settings can be adjusted to give you flexibility on when your audio is processed and a Max Gain can be set to keep the quietest sounds unaffected.
