Independent publisher Velocity Press has announced the release of Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back) by Oli Freke.
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a fan of the almighty synthesizer, in all its forms and functions. Regardless of your genre and scene of choice, the synth has found its way on all styles of music since its conception in the early 1960s. As a result, countless producers, musicians and fans of electronic music have all developed an obsession with analogue and digital noisemakers, from towering Eurorack systems to small and powerful Korg Volcas. Oli Freke is no different, and his new book Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back) celebrates the impact synths have had on music and culture.
The 128-page book provides a “comprehensive and meticulously researched directory of every major synthesizer, drum machine and sampler made between 1963 and 1995”, Velocity Press tells us. All of the featured synths are hand-drawn and presented alongside its features, statistics and fun facts. Synthesizer Evolution tells the story of the synth from analogue to digital – and back again.
Author Oli Freke says “This book has grown out of a life-long obsession with synthesizers and electronic music, and it’s fantastic to be able to share this with my fellow synth obsessives and electronic music fans who celebrate the synth’s role in modern music. I’m eternally grateful to Velocity Press for going with me on this journey and supporting the project so keenly”. He has spent twenty years in the music industry, supporting the likes of Human League on your with his band, Cassette Electrik, whilst writing music for television and recently seeing success with dance music releases.
Synthesizer Evolution is in shops on 8 January 2021 but you can pre-order it now on the Velocity Press website and receive it in November signed by the author and with your name in the credits.
