The latest plug-in from Waves is Vocal Bender, a real-time vocal effect that goes beyond the paradigms of a vocoder. The monophonic voice manipulator is primed for creating popular vocal effects in hip-hop, pop, EDM, R&B and more.
Waves promises zero latency when using Vocal Bender, with two Pitch and Formant controls for instantly pitch-shifted vocal lines. The Pitch dial can transpose your vocals up or down by 1200 cents, with Formant adjustable by the same amount.
A mix dial lets you define the extremity of Vocal Bender. Your vocals can fluctuate between genders and age, and can be made to sound huge or miniature. Alternatively, apply it subtly for soft harmonies, vibrato and vocal doubling. For more robotic vocals, you can deploy the Flatten feature, which locks your vocal into a single pitch.
For a more experimental approach, Vocal Bender gives you an LFO and sequencer to rhythmically modulate parameters. With a little bit of tinkering, you can sequence vocal pitching, pitch chops, vibrato and more. This could be an effortless way to add flair to your vocals.
Waves says that “Vocal Bender is the fastest and simplest way to get ‘that sound’ – Travis Scott deep-voiced ad-libs, Billie Eilish-style vocal doubles, Frank Ocean-style pitch-and formant-shifted lead vocals, or the high-pitched vocal topline in every EDM drop.”
With the zero latency promise, Vocal Bender could prove to be an invaluable tool in studio and performance environments. It comes as part of the Mercury, Pro Show and SD7 Pro Show bundles, or standalone at an introductory price of $35 with the coupon CREATE40. When this offer expires, the plug-in will cost $149.
