3D audio specialist, Zylia, has created a demonstration that exhibits the potential of its 6 Degrees of Freedom VR/AR kit. In the virtual experience, you can navigate around a live performing orchestra as it plays Mozart music.

11 musicians are present in the virtual concert hall, placed among 30 Ambisonics spheres for you to smoothly move around the scene and hear the realistic sound from any place. This could be up close, from backstage or sat in the audience. According to Zylia, this is “the most human-like sound experience available in the market”.

Although Zylia has used 30 microphones in the production of this presentation, the 6DoF Navigable 3D Audio Solution is capable of connecting an unlimited amount of Zylia ZM-1S microphone arrays. Despite the potentially vast number of microphones, you can still use just one computer to record, navigate and stream the recording.

Speaking on the experience, Tomasz Żernicki, CEO of Zylia said: “Applications of 6DoF audio and our technology are wide. Cinematic trailers for VR projects, naturally sounded audio for games, live performances recording, artistic audio content for domes with multi-loudspeakers installations, or virtual presentation of unique places are just a few examples. You as a listener can freely move throughout the recorded scene going closer, further, up, or down from the sound source. Moreover, spatial resolution is so high that you have a feeling of being ‘there’.

To fully experience the demonstration, you’ll need a HTC Vive VR headset. The files can be easily downloaded and used with the headset.
