Fostex’s RP series of headphones recently moved to Mk3, but already has a great reputation in studio circles for close monitoring. The first thing to note is that you may need a headphone amp to drive them at high levels, because a flat frequency response has effectively resulted in a lower sensitivity.

What this means is that they are suited for long and accurate mixing sessions. The volume limitation forces sensible listening, while the flat response really doesn’t flatter, nor does it lie.

What you hear, particularly bass-wise (not so much high-mids), is accurate. They won’t suit those after ‘loud’, but such accuracy at this price is rare
