ModeAudio has conjured up an inventive and compelling mix of dark mystery and twisted paranoia for its latest pack, Rift, which takes its influences from 90s acts such as Massive Attack (Mezzanine-era) and Portishead. Weighing in at just over 620MB, there are 14 track kits, with accompanying Ableton projects, which contain 191 loops of saturated drums, chugging live and synth basses, menacing guitars and twinkling synths.

Also included are 90 MIDI files, 64 tail files to bring the loops to a smooth finish, and 85 processed drum hits. With a perfect blend of melodic melancholy and characterful production, Rift does a great job at capturing the mood and vibe of 90s trip-hop, which is a sound that’s not often presented in sample-pack form. There are stacks of usable riffs here and the darker mood would make this an especially useful collection for TV and film music.
