However, you’ll find you’re limited in what you can then do with this content as changing the pitch of audio tracks can be fiddly at best. Production Tools Vol.6 is the latest collection from Soundorder, which overcomes this problem by offering not just loops, but also sampler instruments and MIDI parts for each instrument

The pack contains 35 tracks, and weighs in at a massive 5.5GB, although this is largely due to the number of different formats available, with each folder containing drum, bass, and lead loops in WAV, Apple Loops, and REX2 formats. You’ll also find a version of the track in full, plus component drum loops and individual drum hits so you can construct your own version of the beat. What really sets this library aside, is the inclusion of multisampled instruments and accompanying MIDI files so you can load up the riffs and really change the patterns to create your own track. The tracks themselves are a cross section of big, commercial sounding electro and trance, and although cheesy in places and slightly unoriginal, are immaculately produced and polished. The only thing that really lets this pack down is a lack of attention to detail, such as instrument settings not being saved to the sampler patches meaning the MIDI loops don’t sound quite the same.

Verdict

Occasional mistakes with MIDI and sampler instruments aside, this is a large and highly flexible collection of commercial-sounding dance construction kits.
