This week, Canadian electronic music all rounder Jessy Lanza, calling in from LA, concludes what has been an incredible season five of the My Forever Studio podcast in partnership with Audient.

If you don’t know, Jessy Lanza has released three albums alongside an incredible, energetic DJ Kicks compilation that features music from the likes of Grain, Oyubi, Masarima, Kanyon and more. Her sound cruises through many different facets of electronic music, from hyperpop techno to dreamy R&B, and glitch-y trap beats. She’s worked with Caribou and has also just recently released a gorgeous single on Hyperdub, Midnight Ontario.
Jessy is an amazing producer, so the My Forever Studio hosts were excited to speak to the Hyperdub mainstay and find out about her dream music studio. By that we mean: where it’s based, what instruments are in it and if there are any extra luxury items she’d choose to include.
In this episode, we delve into her complicated relationship with Logic Pro, as she still holds affection for it despite criticizing its EXS24 sampler. She praises one of her favourite artists, Patrice Rushen, and slams Will Smith’s sampling of her. Lanza describes it as “a crime”, describing Will Smith jokingly as “a jerk” for ruining the song. Lanza talks about her admiration for Akiko Yano’s use of the Sequential Prophet-5 on Soul Train, how losing her vintage Juno-106 with Aer Lingus taught her not to take vintage gear on the road and her desire for her dad’s vintage 909.
