Learn the ins and outs of routing and monitoring in Ableton Live
Monitor reference tracks, route MIDI across multiple channels, set up all-but groups and more in this comprehensive tutorial
As with hardware mixing environments, DAWs are capable of complex routing and monitoring with plenty of options for inputs and outputs – except without all the cables. Ableton Live‘s routing is performed in both the Session View and Arrangement View, but it’s easy to gloss over some of the features available to you in both views.
In this comprehensive Ableton Live Tutorial video, Liam O’Mullane shows you how to monitor your reference tracks, route MIDI data across multiple channels, and how to set up MIDI controllers for different tracks. Liam also explains the difference between Pre FX and Post FX and teaches you how to make use of all-but groups.
Liam O’Mullane, MusicTech’s Ableton Live expert, breaks down the features of Auto Pan and shows you how to create new textures in this week’s Ableton Live Tutorials video.
