For Point Blank’s latest Ableton tutorial, Ski Oakenfull and Adamski break down the latter’s seminal 90s hit, Killer, which features soul superstar Seal.

In the video, Adamski sheds light on some of the instruments and sounds used on the track. He and Oakenfull discuss the usage of Roland’s iconic TR909 as well as other vintage gear like the Esoniq SQ 80 synth and Yamaha’s TX120 Drum Machine.

Oakenfull then proceeds to deconstruct Killer on Ableton Live 10.1, his main tools being Ableton’s Push 2 and stock 909 plug-in. He first enters in different beats and attempts to recreate Killer’s iconic bassline with a plug-in. Then, he beefs up the track with some ‘emotional’ chords along with rave piano and bell synths, before vocals – recreated by Valerie Etienne – are added to the mix.

Watch the full deconstruction process above, which also includes a bonus interview with Adamski.
