Collision isn’t often a producer’s go-to instrument. Unlike the other synthesizers and samplers in the DAW, Ableton Live’s acoustic modelling device focuses on the resonance of certain objects such as tubes and mallets. Once you get familiar with its properties, you can craft a vast range of idiosyncratic sounds.

In this Ableton Live tutorial, Liam O’Mullane shows you how to use Collision. You’ll learn how the acoustic modelling device can create interesting sounds using its activators and two Resonator chambers. Liam helps you better understand how the various parameters within Collision affect the overall tone and how the LFO and MIDI sections can modulate the sound with ease.
