Point Blank: Deconstructing Todd Terje – Delorean Dynamite

In Point Blank’s latest weekly spot, they explore the intricacies of Delorean Dynamite by Todd Terje…

Before the Norse, Todd Terje made a name for himself as the king of edits, taking some classic and obscure jams from dancefloors gone by and turning them into modern groovers, often extending them to epic sonic journeys. That trend continued through his own music and his debut album, It’s Album Time, is a cosmic trip with tonnes of amazing sound design, synth programming and epic riffs. One track that stands out is Delorean Dynamite, combining Miami Vice-style synths with classic chord combinations. We decided to strip the track down and figure out exactly how it was made, using Ableton Push and Live’s Analog device. In this video, EMC course tutor Ski Oakenfull breaks down the track and uses some special Ableton tips to re-build the driving bassline. Find out more about our EMC course here.
