Welcome back to Point Blank’s weekly spot here on MusicTech, where this week Mike Koglin takes on a Trance classic…

In this episode of the Point Blank production analysis series, Grammy-nominated producer and DJ Mike Koglin examines a huge Trance anthem from 2006, Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes. In part 1 of this Logic X tutorial Mike deconstructs the main riff of the track, which is a great example of how modulated filtered delays can be used to create a unique sound.

The dry signal is being sent to an FX buss where it’s routed through a bandpass filter before passing through a stereo delay, a compressor and some reverb. The filter frequency is then continually modulated via Logic’s automation to re-create the sweeping delays that form the main theme of this Trance classic.

In part 2 Mike will examine the bass and the drums while part 3 covers the pads and additional riffs.
