You don’t have to look very far to come across a world-class producer that’s made magic with a machine from AKAI‘s MPC range. J Dilla, Mark Ronson, MF Doom, Dr Dre, Kanye West, Outkast and Moodymann are just some of the iconic names that have found success thanks to these legendary samplers.

Now, a new age of MPC is upon us with the MPC One, which combines the classic look and feel of the early models and the recent technology that enhances workflow within the MPC. Point Blank’s DJ Ravine has teamed up with Rob from AKAI to get hands-on experience in creating a quick beat. In this case, they demonstrate how you can get a trap beat going in just 10 minutes.

The video covers how to browse samples efficiently, how to set up your sequence, getting to grips with the piano roll function to cut, copy, transpose and edit notes in the same way a DAW is capable of, plus an overview of adding effects like sidechain, reverb and delay. “The results from the MPC One, and the workflow speed, were impressive to say the least”, Point Blank says.
