Baby Audio Super VHS evokes lo-fi magic with ease
Six unique effects comprise the plug-in, minimising preset scrolling
Baby Audio rolls out its next plug-in hot off the heels of its NY Compressor release, with Super VHS. This effects plug-in has been designed to capture the essence of VHS imperfections without the need for endless parameter adjusting and scrolling through preset menus. Baby Audio is aiming to bring back the warm tape saturation, slightly out-of-tune sounds and grainy, gritty textures that the 1980s is remembered for.
Six one-knob effects come together in a versatile channel strip.
STATIC is a static noise synthesiser
HEAT adds analogue tape saturation
SHAPE is a sample rate reducer, inspired by 1980s 8-bit samplers
MAGIC offers dark and lush chorus effects
DRIFT is an LFO that modulates pitch
WASH acts a ‘bad hall’ reverb
Super VHS is built with an internal EQ, bit-crusher and limiter.
Super VHS can add lo-fi sonic character to any desired sound, whether you’re after a subtle touch of character, or an extreme, crushing twist to an arrangement. “We wanted this plugin to be like sending your sounds back in time, then re-discovering them on a worn-out VHS tape 30 years later. All with the click of a single button, right inside your DAW”, Baby Audio says.
The plug-in is compatible across all major DAWs, in 64-bit and 32-bit, Mac or Windows. Although do note it is not yet supported by OS Catalina – the company says they aim for compatibility by late 2019.
