PreSonus’ Atom SQ deeply integrates with both Studio One and Ableton Live
Its 32 RGB-backlit keys double as pads for a TR-style beatmaker or for clip launching.

PreSonus has announced the Atom SQ, a performance and production controller that boasts deep integration with both Studio One and Ableton Live. This follows the company’s launch of Studio One 5 earlier this month.
The Atom SQ is a bus-powered controller with 32 velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB-backlit keys, that can also double as pads for beat making or clip launching. It also features a screen that shows contextual information and parameters, and also sports a built-in arpeggiator.
In addition to a standard fare of transport controls (stop, play, record and click-enable), there’s also a touch strip and eight endless rotary knobs that can be user assigned.
While working in Studio One, the Atom SQ can be used to play instruments, function as a 16-step sequencer or control the DAW’s pattern editor. Inserting new patterns, changing their lengths, adding variations, and making scale changes can all be performed directly from the Atom SQ. This integration, too, spans various basic functions such as selecting and editing individual steps, copying, pasting, duplicating, and deleting.
The controller’s integration with Ableton Live is similar, allowing clips and scenes to be launched, parameters to be mapped to physical controls and its interface to be navigated with dedicated buttons for zooming in and out.
Additionally, the Atom SQ also includes Studio One Artist and Ableton Live Lite, as well as two loop packs with custom kits for the brand’s Impact XT plug-in.
The PreSonus Atom SQ is available soon for €247/$324.95. As of press time, no launch date has been announced.
